I was born and raised on a farm outside Caruthers, California. Caruthers is a farming community south of Fresno. During high school I worked on the school newspaper, School Daze, as a staff reporter and photographer. I also worked on the yearbook, La Puerta. My first paid job was a freelance reporter for the Caruthers Gazette.
After graduating from high school in 1970, I went to California State University, Fresno. I majored in history with a minor in political science. I took some journalism classes and worked on the Daily Collegian as a staff photographer for two and one half years. I also did photography for the The Instructional Media Center. Some of my Fresno State photos will be showcased at various times throughout this site.
After graduating in 1974, I went to graduate school at Fresno State. I worked on my masters in urban and regional planning. The department gave me a graduate assistantship to teach photography and run the photo lab in the department. While in graduate school, I got a job with United Airlines in Fresno. I left United in 1980 and joined AirCal. I moved to San Francisco with AirCal in 1982. In 1987 AirCal merged with American Airlines, who would later become one of my best photography clients to date.
Over the years I have done many photo assignments for American Airlines. Photo assignments include Flagship News, Annual Reports, seat back safety cards, American Cares, award ceremonies, company portraits and countless other company sponsored events.
I now call Arlington, Texas home with my artist wife, Eve Owens Wada. Eve and I met while we showed our respective art work at various art galleries in the then burgeoning Dallas, Deep Ellum art scene.
